Chairman Watson and members of the County Council: The League of Women Voter of Howard supports Council Resolution 110-2008 a payments in lieu of State and County real estate property taxes agreement for the acquisition and renovation of the 300 unit residential apartment complex "Columbia Landing" located off Tamar Drive in Columbia. The agreement terms provide for the reservation of at least 60 dwelling units reserved for rent to households of moderate income during the first 2 years of the agreement. For a term of 40 years, 120 of the dwelling units shall be reserved for rent to households of low income. The Housing Commission shall invest $1.2 million in renovation in the Columbia Landing housing complex over the next two years. The League's housing position supports adequate housing choices in suitable living environments within the economic reach of all persons of all ages. The League also supports measures of public financial assistance to rehabilitate existing housing. The League urges the County Council support for Council Resolution 110-2008.
